The walk is the beat

Washington Capitals games are still one of the DMV’s most reliable shared nights. Not because every season is a Cup run — because the geography is simple: Metro to Gallery Place, a short walk, and a building that has hosted this club since the MCI Center era.

Sport DMV is covering Caps hockey as a local habit, not a national recap mill. The questions that matter here are practical: who is in town, what time is puck drop, and which stretch of 7th Street actually fills before the anthem.

Capital One Arena, not a road trip

This is downtown basketball-and-hockey infrastructure. The same concourse that holds Wizards nights holds Caps nights. That overlap is the DMV story — two winter clubs sharing a building, a Metro stop, and a set of bars that live off the schedule.

We’ll note call-ups, back-to-backs, and the nights that actually move the neighborhood. We will not pretend a Tuesday in January is a playoff Game 7.
