Preseason

Exhibition slate is done — including Saturday's 5-1 win at Philadelphia (desk).

A road open against Carolina followed by Tampa is a hard handshake for October. Special teams that clicked in the Cap One dress rehearsal need to travel; goaltending and the opening-night roster decisions will decide whether the first week feels like a foundation or a scramble. Two nights on the road before the Penguins home opener leave little room for a soft start.
