Nats sweep Angels 6-5 — Irvin’s first relief outing; Phillies Tuesday

The Washington Nationals beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-5 on Sunday, Sep. 13 and completed a three-game sweep.

Jake Irvin worked five innings in relief — his first MLB outing out of the bullpen after an opener — and allowed three runs. Washington tied it in the sixth, then scored four in the eighth; Jacob Young’s go-ahead double highlighted the rally per the wire. Erik Tolman (1-1) earned his first big-league win; Jack Sinclair closed the ninth for his first MLB save. Daylen Lile, CJ Abrams, Yohandy Morales, and James Wood each had two hits.

Washington is 70-81. Los Angeles finished 56-93 after a rough road trip.
