Debut night, then a matinee
The Washington Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves 9-5 on Tuesday, Sep. 1 at Nationals Park.
Yohandy Morales — called up as rosters expanded — struck out his first time up, then led off the third with a solo home run in his first major-league game. He also singled and doubled (3-for-night line per the AP wire). Jared Simpson entered in the fifth with runners on, escaped with a double play and a flyout, then threw two more perfect innings for the win (1-0). He struck out three of the eight batters he faced.
Washington’s second-inning four-run push featured CJ Abrams’s two-run single and Brady House’s two-run double after Ozzie Albies had homered for Atlanta. Michael Harris II also went deep for the Braves. AJ Smith-Shawver took the loss (0-1). Attendance 18,975. Nationals are 67-74 (two-game win streak); Braves 82-57, still atop the NL East.
Wednesday, Sep. 2 closes the two-game set: Brad Lord (5-2, 3.75) opposite Grant Holmes (9-5, 3.71), first pitch 1:05 p.m. ET. Sport DMV is not inventing a lineup card. Confirm TV/radio on the Nationals board. The Nationals page is the hub.
