Opening night, and a statement
Capital One Arena got the night it paid for. The Wizards beat the Bucks 128-116 in the 2026-27 home opener — Washington’s first regular-season win with Trae Young and Anthony Davis in the same starting five.
Davis owned the glass and the free-throw line: 34 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals on 11-of-20 from the field and 11-of-14 at the stripe. Young finished with 20 points and 13 assists, living at the line (12-of-16) when the three-ball would not fall (0-of-6). The pairing did not look theoretical. It looked like a night-one blueprint.
The supporting cast carried weight without No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa (left ankle sprain). Kyshawn George scored 18. Bilal Coulibaly added 11 with four steals and two blocks. Deandre Ayton punched in 11 in 15 minutes off the bench. Bub Carrington chipped in 10. Washington shot 52.3% from the field, won the glass 57-48, and forced 16 Milwaukee turnovers while committing 11.
Milwaukee’s remade look still had punch. Tyler Herro led the Bucks with 24 and nine assists. Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored 22. Kasparas Jakučionis added 15 off the bench. It was not enough against a Wizards front that lived in the paint and kept the free-throw margin honest (32-of-41).
One night does not rewrite a 17-65 hangover. It does put a clean 1-0 on the board for a roster built to stop the conversation about tanking. Confirm the next tip and late scratches on the club board.
