Dawkins: Sarr partial for camp, expected opening night Oct. 21

Dawkins preseason media

Wizards GM Will Dawkins met the media on Thursday, Sep. 24 ahead of training camp — the first clear injury and tone check before the doors open next week.

On Alex Sarr (June surgery, fractured foot), Dawkins said he expects a “partial participant” at the start of camp and added: “I anticipate that he’ll be able to play opening night” (Oct. 21 vs Milwaukee) (Bullets Forever / Wizards on SI). On Jamir Watkins (ACL surgery in July), Dawkins said he is out “a good amount of time” — no short-term return invented here. Dawkins also said the rest of the roster is healthy heading into camp (Wizards on SI).

Tone, quoted not invented: Dawkins called it a “season of growth”, declined to put a win number on the year, and said he has “full confidence” in coach Brian Keefe (Bullets Forever).

Sport DMV read

Sarr on the floor for opening night is the headline Cap One wants; Watkins’ timeline is the quiet one that still reshapes the wing. Watch camp participation lists next week — partial is not full, and growth talk only counts if the young core actually shares minutes with the veterans.
