Homestand middle game — winless Kings at Cap One

The Capitals are 5-3-0 and riding a two-game win streak into Tuesday’s 7 p.m. puck drop against Los Angeles at Capital One Arena (MNMT). The middle game of a five-game homestand is a chance to stack a third straight before Buffalo arrives Saturday.

Saturday’s 4-2 win over New Jersey was a depth night: Ryan Leonard’s individual effort tied it, then Ilya Protas, Dylan Strome, and Boone Jenner scored in the second. Logan Thompson shut the door in the third until a late power-play consolation for the Devils.

Los Angeles is 0-4-2 and opens a road trip in Washington. That does not make this a freebie — the Kings can carry play and still lose, and a Capitals group that has already leaned on call-ups cannot sleep through a soft start.

Availability is the subplot. Matt Roy practiced fully Monday after missing six games with a lower-body injury; Spencer Carbery had not locked him in. Justin Sourdif missed Monday’s skate with illness. Pierre-Luc Dubois returned in a noncontact jersey, with Carbery still expecting him to sit pending medical talks. Confirm the final lineup on the Capitals board before puck drop.

The Kings may get Mats Zuccarello back after an IR stretch — also unconfirmed as of Monday’s notes. Watch the warmups, then judge the matchup on how Washington’s blue line absorbs another night without a full roster.
