Final — Washington Nationals 6, New York Mets 4
The Nationals closed 2026 with a 6-4 win over the Mets on Sunday, Sep. 27 at Nationals Park — first pitch moved up to 1:05 p.m. ET (ESPN).
New York jumped ahead early. Benge singled Lindor home in the first; Mauricio and Lindor went deep in the second for a 4-1 Mets lead. Washington clawed back: Abrams tripled House home in the first, Nuñez doubled Ford in during the second, and then Chaparro took over — solo homers in the third and fifth that turned a deficit into a 5-4 Nats lead. House’s single in the seventh scored Wood for the final margin.
A season that never found October still ended with a young bat dictating the last Sunday at the Park. DJ Herz’s return start after Tommy John was rocky (3 IP, 4 ER); the bullpen cleaned it up behind him.

Sport DMV read
Chaparro’s two-homer finale is the image locals take into the offseason — power from the middle of a rebuild year. Next for the Nats is winter work: roster construction and the young core that showed up enough times to make 77 wins feel like a floor, not a ceiling.
