Why it matters
Regular-season hockey is back. Washington opens 2026-27 on the road at Carolina — first measuring stick after a full preseason that closed with a 5-1 win in Philadelphia.
Road back-to-back starts here: Hurricanes Friday, Lightning Saturday, then the home opener vs Pittsburgh on Oct. 7.
