Final — Washington Spirit 0, Angel City FC 1

The Washington Spirit lost 1-0 to Angel City on Saturday, Sep. 26 at Audi Field — a sellout under rainy, low-60s weather that ended with a late punch the home side could not answer (club recap).

Washington had the ball and the chances for long stretches. Shots ran 16–14 for the Spirit; shots on goal went 2–3 Angel City’s way. That gap mattered when the visitors found the one finish that counted. Home nights at Audi have been loud all year — this one still felt unfinished when the clock hit the 88th.

One late goal flipped a control game into a standings dent. The table still has room — third place with four to play — but every remaining result now carries playoff weight for a club that has sold out Audi four times and just crossed a franchise attendance milestone.

Locked scoring

  • LA — Maiara Niehues — 88' (assisted by Carina Lageyre)

Atmosphere

  • Attendance: 19,215 (fourth sellout of the season)
  • Club also reported surpassing 200,000 regular-season fans through the gates for the first time in franchise history
  • Weather: rainy / low-60s

Notes

  • Clara Luvanga made her Spirit debut (first Tanzanian player in NWSL history, per club)
  • Spirit shots 16–14; on goal 2–3
  • Washington falls to third with four matches left

Sport DMV read

DMV soccer packed Audi again and watched a season milestone (200,000 through the gates) sit next to a result that stings. The next step is clear: travel to Houston and convert possession into a finish before the calendar runs out. Sunday, Oct. 4 at the Houston Dash, 7:00 p.m. ET, on Roku (club).
